There are two methods in preparing Bach flowers, the sun method and the cooking method.
When using the sun method the flowers are picked before 11 o’clock on a sunny non-cloudy day. When picking the flowers it is important not to touch them with your hands. Most of the time scissors are used and the flowers are caught in a basket. A branch will be used to get them out of the basket and into a bowl of water until the surface of the water is fully covered with flowers. This bowl is placed for three hours in the sun. Afterward the flowers are removed and an equal portion of alcohol is added to the bowl of water. This is now the base with which the Bach Flower remedies are made.
The second method is the cooking method. Here the flowers are not exposed to the sun but are put in bowl of water. They are put on the stove and boiled down for half an hour. Afterward the flowers are removed and the water is filtered and an equal amount of alcohol is added and this mixture is put into a stock bottle and forms the base for making Bach Flower remedies.
Which flowers are used for the sun method and which ones for the cooking method have been documented by Dr. Edward Bach in his notes. Two of his loyal followers Nora Weeks and Victor Bullen, have written these down in a book called “ The Bach Flower Remedies, illustrations and preparations”. Here you can find a detailed description of the preparation method of the 38 flowers. These flowers are used as a base to make the different combinations that you can buy on the website. An overview of the standard combinations can be found here by clicking on Bach Flower remedies.
